Have their own Law and Justice (Jirga)

Extremely conservative culture which they think is rooted in Islam (much of it is not)

Kids aged 8-11 will be proficient in Small Arms weapons, grenades and field survival.

Many of these kids have multiple kills due to inter-tribal wars.

They were literally living in pre-1600 century, keep their women caged (honor killing occasionally as per customs etc), only Islamic education was termed worthy rest garbage (laughable coz they are...

..using cellphone, VBIED etc). Also Islamic knowledge had no comparison to other Fiqha so a Hanbali or Shafii having a small beard dressed in Thob (Arabic dressing) maybe considered a deviant.

Anyone who possessed a big Gun and a fat Wallet commanded respect.

They were extremely polarised (inter tribal rivalry), self sufficient and stayed away from "strange people" (which prolly constituted entire )

They have Malik/Mashar who commands them over almost aspect of their social framework. Eeverything from justice to war.

No Fault of their own

We changed since we had the privileged fortune to receive higher education, access to technology/media and info, better living standards and not considering attached washrooms as a luxury.

Is it their fault that they were born in an area which held no importance until it became a breeding ground for Terrorism?

Fault Lies & Deceit

Terrorists did their homework well. They came into their midst looking like them, speaking like them and exploited a common Pashtunwali code of honouring and safeguarding ones guests.

Terrorists initially just imbedded themselves into their rows but afterwards they started killing their men, sexually assaulting their women and young boys. So they retaliated but it was too late by then...

When Army went in there initially it was equipped in khaki, DMS boots & Air-conditioned jeeps. They were met with hostility by tribals who termed them infidels (Kafir) & fought their own Army ruthlessly primary coz tribals had no idea what #Pakistan was & which #Army.

It goes massive credit to visionary leadership of Gen @P_Musharraf and Gen Kiyani who transformed everything from operations to uniform to gear / equipment, right down to GOCs of the area helping Maliks bridge gaps amongst tribals in Jirga Rooms inside Army Camps.

Initiated massive #Development programs such as construction of road network, power grids (Gomal zam dam etc), Cadet colleges, schools, vocational and technical diploma institutes, hospitals, markets etc

This was the WHAM (Winning Hearts & Minds) which the Army leadership ensued unknown to many, even to gen masses. This finally won us #FATA and eventual Zarb e Azb + Radd ul Fassad to mop up stranglers midst them.

Now I apologize for this long essay. I've limited knowledge about it mostly gained by interacting with knowledgeable people (especially die hard soldiers who hail from agencies) & reading articles. But this is why Agencies are the way they are.

They were left behind!

But we can't let our martyrs blood be wasted in vain. We sacrificed ALOT that can't be forgotten. We MUST ensure that no matter who it is, be it Politician, general or otherwise. Anyone who tries to exploit hard fought & earned Victory then they should be defeated.
