The Labour Party has an annual staff wage bill of over £23 million, including pensions.

This massive expenditure can only be sustained because of first-past-the post.

That's the primary reason why the Labour is financially incentivised to maintain first past the post.

1/
Labour spent over £23 million on wages and pensions in 2018.

Based on their total headcount of 441 staff, that's an average of £54,000 per person.

But, as the 441 number includes 56 part time staff. The average wage and pension bill for full time staff will be higher.

2/
Labour relies on Short Money to keep paying its massive wage bill - they hoovered up 79% of all Short Money in 2019 (despite the fact that Labour seldom gets more than 40% of the vote)

3/
Anyone who's worked for a large organisation knows that the first rule is not to rock the boat.

In other words: make sure everyone keeps their job and gets regular pay rises.

So any Labour person arguing to end the FPTP gravy train will be painting a target on their back.
