A thread on the people behind #PaatalLok , the most definitive web show of 2020 by @PrimeVideoIN that has raised the bar higher for all the streaming platforms.

The show is created by Sudip Sharma who has Udta Punjab, NH10 and Sonchiriya to his credit. Sudip explains that primarily the show is about people whose stories are not told and who have a sense of desperation.

The show is written by a team of four writers - Sudip himself, Hardik Mehta, @sagarhaveli & @GunjitChopra. It took them two years to build this whole web of stories to showcase the divides between Swarg Lok, Dharti Lok and Paatal Lok. Seen here with Navdeep Singh (extreme right).

The show's basic plot line is inspired from Tarun Tejpal's The Story of My Assassins. The book is based on real-life incidents revolving around five hitmen who were captured by the Delhi police for conspiring the murder of Tejpal.

Since Tarun Tejpal is currently serving his sentence on the rape and sexual assault charges against him, the makers decided not to credit him and thus, his name appears nowhere in the show.

Paatal Lok is directed by two directors - Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy. Both of them have directed one feature film before this web show. Avinash has directed the National Award winning Marathi film, Killa that also won the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Apart from direction, Avinash Arun is a cinematography graduate from FTII, Pune and has shot multiple films like Masaan, Drishyam, Madaari and Karwaan. He has also shot the Amazon Prime original along with Saurabh Goswami who has shot films like Ek Thi Daayan and Tumhari Sulu.

@prosit_roy directed the supernatural horror film Pari in 2018 that featured @AnushkaSharma in the lead role and has been an assistant director on films like Delhi-6 and Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Naa.

The show is the digital debut of Anushka Sharma under her banner Clean Slate Filmz @OfficialCSFilms that the actress along with her brother Karnesh. The production company has always ventured into challenging territories with films like NH10, Phillauri and Pari.

The show is slickly edited by Sanyukta Kaza. She has been a editor of critically acclaimed films like Ship of Theseus, Tumbbad and Love Per Square Foot.

Paatal Lok has prolific actors in the lead including @Jaiahlawat and @NeerajKabi1 steering the show to its greater heights.

Seen here is Jaideep portraying his most iconic role, Shahid Khan in GoW.

But did you know Neeraj Kabi essayed Mahatma Gandhi in the series Samvidhaan?

The show will definitely prove to be a game changer for its supporting cast and hope that the actors get more meatier roles in the times to come.

Specially Ishwak Singh aka Imran Ansari, who played the confidante to Jaideep's character Hathi Ram Chaudhary.

The actor was earlier seen in a blink-and-you-miss-it role in Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha as Tara's boyfriend who she ditches after her Corsica adventure with Don aka Ved.

The entire casting of the series is done by @casting_bay, a Mumbai based company.

Guess who owns the company? Hathoda Tyagi and Manju Verma!

@nowitsabhi, Anmol Ahuja and @mainnikita are the people behind Casting Bay who have also worked on films like Bala and The Sky Is Pink.

The show has no particular theme but its eerie background adds depth to the raw and riveting scenes. The original music is by Naren Chandavarkar and @benedmusic.
