Women in the ATS complained about their uniform so much that it was redesigned to look more flattering. People ignored sirens, broke the blackout, hoarded petrol etc because they thought the rules didn’t apply to them. Race & racism was a subject of lively and thoughtful debate.

At this point, there’s basically an inverse relationship between how much someone is wanging on about the Second World War and how much they actually know about it.
