re: mask avoiders bringing up hippa at grocery stores- this is a specific and openly planned tactic of these fucks to use legislation protecting disabled people as a shield from basic pandemic guidelines. literally encouraging each other to fake disabilities for their ~freedom~
hippa does not apply to non-healthcare workers, for the record. and i am not here to shame anybody with a legitimate reason they cannot wear a mask. some places will shop for you, offer curbside service, etc in those cases. but this image is circulating fb and other socials
and specifically being touted as a way for conservatives to get around the covid 19 regulations, NOT as a way for actual disabled folks to self-advocate.
it is truly sick that the protections offered to us by the ADA are being twisted this way like the my body my choice rhetoric right now. idrk what else to say. the people doing this are the same people who bring pets to walmart and assault service dog handlers, i guarantee it
to specify, the ADA does of course apply to stores and other public access businesses. but it also says that in the event that an accommodation for one conflicts with the needs of another, both should be accommodated equally. you CAN be denied physical entry for health/safety
and that means to prevent the potential of you spreading covid. they are supposed to offer alternate solutions in this case, but if you try to force violations of the current business guidelines afterwards then fuck off
this is getting a lot of attention (at least for me lmao) so i'm just gonna dream big and drop my venmo 🤣 https://venmo.com/code?user_id=2478816031145984648
i also have cashapp: $roebie since someone asked!
please note 1. this is shitty, but not an excuse to violate the ADA/accuse people of faking. i highly recommend checking out http://ada.gov  for relevant laws. 2. talking about the "bad guys" is not a valid reason to employ ableism. 3. thank you to everyone who tipped me!
not to and another thing but 🤣 while i do post leftist stuff a lot, if you're looking to support disabled folks and learn more, here are some people i recommend also following!

@AaronLinguini
@Imani_Barbarin

i hate to keep adding but since many have asked why somebody would be unable to wear a mask: https://twitter.com/imsuchakilljoy/status/1262373823678222336?s=19
great thread explaining legal issues here! https://twitter.com/charlesthomas/status/1262399616823238656?s=19
apparently these folks also have other graphics (please be advised these legal claims are... incorrect) https://twitter.com/ecovladislav/status/1262400748106575872?s=19
another great thread on why these laws do not apply as claimed by the images! https://twitter.com/BoozyBadger/status/1262456063565139971?s=19
hopefully my 2nd to last addition i'm SO sorry lmao
1. some have pointed out there are non-healthcare workers hipaa applies to (but it still doesn't apply here)
2. stop suggesting making access more difficult to prevent this. disabled ppl deserve better. the ADA is pretty good.
lastly, when i added my venmo, this was a ~300 likes vent tweet. i thought folks might drop a dollar or two as a tip but they have been so generous. thank you so much. i actually lost my job due to covid19 in march and financially it's been very difficult. so i'm just blown away.
i hope y'all will consider donating to mutual aid funds like this one (feel free to reply with more suggestions too!) if you want to support some other very worthy people today. if it's a choice between me and them for you, please choose them. https://www.ienearth.org/covid-19-emergency-mutual-aid-fund/
