The MD State Board of Elections is a government agency, one that is supposed to be responsible to all Marylanders, even those of us in Baltimore City. First, we were told that ballots would be mailed on May 1st. #thread https://twitter.com/emilyopilo/status/1262147717490507783
Then we were told that parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County & Howard County would have their ballots mailed in May 8th, supposedly because the 7th Congressional District had just had a special election a few days before May 1st and the BoE wanted to avoid confusion.
Now we are being told that only Baltimore City’s ballots have been delayed - by over two weeks - and that some voters are not expected to receive their ballots until less than a week before they must be back to be counted. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I urge the Board of Elections to convene this week to provide the voters of Baltimore City with answers to the following questions:
Why *exactly* don’t we have our ballots yet?
Why would the BoE send ballots to Baltimore City after other jurisdictions?
What steps will be taken to make sure this never happens again?
