I'm falling down a generic action movie hole and I'm loving it.
Started with Olympus Has Fallen. Really dug it and wanted to watch all of them but Netflix only has 1 and 3 which is dumb.
So then I settled on Blood Father. Was decent enough with some good action and character stuff. I really like the dark crime thriller niche Mel Gibson has been in the last few decades. Just a shame about his personal baggage. Felt this film was gonna reflect more on that but nah.
Just finished First Kill. It was decent but I spent most of the time reflecting on Hayden Christensen. Wish he was in more.
This afternoon I went with Lockdown. Really fun flick. Could watch Guy Pierce by a smart ass for 20 movies. The station sets all looked great. Like if Escape from LA had a baby with Fortress 2.
Today I went with Armed Response. Didn't dig it, pretty boring. Seth Rollins was cool.
Just watch From Paris With Love. Really dug it. Kinda slow at first but once Travolta shows up it kicked off. He's having a lot of fun and it's infectious.
Finished out the day with Den of Thieves. Gerard Butler is great in this as Russell Crowe. It was alright but everything was kinda meh. Feels like it needs some flair or touchups. At a certain point I just didn't want to hear gun shots anymore. Liking it less as I think about it.
Checked out Netflix's Point Blank. Decent enough movie elevated by it's really likable leads. Frank Grillo has just been crushing it for almost a decade and doesn't get enough props.
Watched American Assassin. Loved the cast and would watch them in a sequel but this one didn't do it for me. A prequel with Kitsch and Keaton could be good. Basically feels like they squandered some real strong potential but it's decent enough.
Rented London Has Fallen because Gerard Butler is the patron saint of this thread. Was liking it well enough but wanted a big twist or reveal and it ended kinda blah. Butler is great in these movies though. Hyper American Action Man. Always love me some Aaron Eckhart.
