1/11 Thread about conflict of interest of Elham Saudi @Elham_LFJL Director of charity @LibyanJustice which receives millions in donor funding. Evidence includes video. For background Elham’s father Abdullah Saudi was Gaddafi’s trusted banker, overseeing billions in foreign deals
3/11 Abdullah Saudi is still on the board of a number of international banks. He chairs United Bank of Credit and Commerce and is vice-chair of Bahrain’s Albaraka Bank. Elham’s brother Adel is founder of Tuareg Capital and was a senior manager at Abu Dhabi Investment Company
4/11 In 2015 at London’s Frontline Club Elham stated that crimes that occurred AFTER the Gaddafi era, specifically committed by the pro-revolution camp, be looked at, but ‘NOT (those) in 1969 & 1771’! Btw not one Gaddafi era official was ever imprisoned for corruption after 2011
5/11 She mentions ‘Political Isolation Law’ which was supposed to bar Gaddafi regime high ranking officials from holding similar posts for 10 years post-2011. It did NOT stop normal people, even if they loved Gaddafi, holding such posts. NB: The law could have barred her father
6/11 Elham wants only those who fought in self-defence versus Gaddafi to be held accountable for human rights violations. Throughout the event she never mentioned Gaddafi fighters who started the 2011 war. The same fighters who kill civilians in Tripoli TODAY. THEY have impunity
7/11 Is this something that anyone recognizes? She claims that anyone who doesn’t like the revolution is killed! That there wasn’t even the option of prison, and that Sisi’s Egypt had it better! That is a fabrication. Note how she says ‘from day 1 of the revolution’. Really?
8/11 So in 2015 Elham explains to the audience how to start legal action against her preferred defendants: the revolutionary politicians & fighters. Why is @LibyanJustice refusing to use these steps against Haftar? Even then, no mention of Haftar being tried for coup declaration
9/11 Elham can support/like/dislike whomever she wishes. But 1)her family’s very strong links to Gaddafi & ongoing ties to UAE, Saudi, Bahrain, Jordan through their banks 2)obvious dislike of Tripoli fighters are a massive conflict of interest re Director of @LibyanJustice...
10/11 because she will always be swayed in seeking justice depending on who the perpetrator of crimes are. She rarely if ever mentions the UAE. She ALWAYS equates between Haftar terrorists & the Libyan government. She seeks justice against Alwarfalli but not Haftar.
11/11 LJFL’s focus has been anti-Gaddafi revolutionaries, migrants & Saif Gaddafi. Most Gaddafi officials who jumped ship after Feb 2011 DO NOT want Saif exposing their crimes & corruption in the Gaddafi era.Everything is in public domain. Link to event:
Just to add: the reason I researched this was because of @LibyanJustice’s odd behaviour and odd statements. There was clearly something wrong. They don’t act like you would expect decent professional human rights lawyers would
And this tweep describes Abdullah Saudi a bit https://twitter.com/gaddafibankers/status/1126099216625958914?s=21 https://twitter.com/gaddafibankers/status/1126099216625958914
US Treasury list of Libyan Banks all around the world that Abdullah Saudi was chair or deputy chair of
Do you remember @KateVigneswaran? I told you how astounding this is. Please read the above summary. An event on war crimes & impunity in Libya which neither mentions Haftar or that there was an 8 month war on Tripoli? Imagine a Syria war crimes event that doesn’t mention Assad...
I am aware that @Elham_LFJL mentions Haftar and the UAE with some activists/analysts, etc, behind closed doors. I mean she would look extremely bad if she didn’t. But in terms of publicly calling for action against Haftar or UAE for their war crimes: NOTHING
