Booting up the original Animal Crossing game on the GameCube: a thread #animalcrossing 
So I was hoping to boot up my game from when I was a kid 15 or so years ago. I think I’ve lost the memory card though, so I’m going to have to start over
First off - the game starts on a train talking to Rover and setting up your character/town. Get a load of those 2002 graphics

Instead of arriving by seaplane, you arrive by train and WOW I DIDNT REMEMBER HOW WEIRD LOOKING THE HUMANS ARE LMAO

Instead of choosing your home’s location, the 4 player houses are in a little group with a notice board in the middle. You can pick any house, each has a mailbox and a gyroid (this is how you save and do other housekeeping things). I’m gonna take the top right
This is what the inside looks like! Each house came with 2-3 things inside. Decent walls, unimpressive floor IMO but we can fix that eventually
House loan number 1 is a whopping 19,800 bells but I (of course) only have 1,000. At least it’s more than I had when I showed up in New Horizons lol. Tom Nook’s solution is to have me work part time at his shop, so yay employment!

HAHA I tried to move my GameCube closer so I could sit on the couch instead of the floor... the POWER CORD CAME OUT so I am starting over, I’ll catch up with you as soon as I pick out my house again

Kicked the ball off the ledge down to the wishing well where I found TORTIMER! Tortimer is the mayor of the town! He usually gives nice gifts out on holidays
Wow am I... I swear I remember having to go into town to get to the museum. Like across the railroad tracks up top... am I going crazy or am I thinking of a different game? I am right? Ugh
Anyway, here’s the museum and OG Blathers! In this situation, we are a branch of a larger museum, so obvs this is baby Blathers breaking into the museum biz! Proud of his glow up in New Horizons tbh
Made it to the beach! Picking up shells has always been a fun thing for me in AC. Also, I have never hooked up to the gameboy so I never met him in this game, but Kapp’n was here too!
Whew gotta remember these controls. So far: b is pick up, a is select and all the normal stuff, y is menu and x is ?

The dump! Random things will show up here, from clothes to wallpaper and flooring to furniture. Kinda like the construction box in New Horizons
This is the post office! We’ll go inside next, but at the top you can change the town melody
Inside we have the counter and an e-reader. Pelly is at the counter and will help you send a letter. When I get money, I’ll show you my favorite thing about the post office. I’ve never used the e-reader so can’t explain anything there
Back at the top center of the map we have the train station and the town map. This is helpful because I don’t have a map I can carry around, and was totally just running around blind right now soooo let me take a peek and see what I missed. IIRC, KK plays on that little stand
Ok I missed 2 villagers, so let’s see who they are and then we’ll go to Nook’s! First up is Olivia! Cute but hashtag rood
Finally, Liz! Cute little alligator, v strange catchphrase, but aight. Now off to see Nook!
Ah I forgot about the police station! Another great way to find free stuff lolz. Copper and Booker pick up missing items and you can grab what you want! Booker is v confident as you can see. I’ll come pick up the items later, but it looks like 2 outfits and a piece of furniture

Ooh I can’t wait until I can start running little errands and doing favors for the villagers. That was one of my fave parts of the earlier games. I’ve seen a tiny sliver of it in NH but hoping for more
She gave me a detour sign as a reward. Tysm Leigh, now I can use it to set up a detour on the nonexistent roads we have
Money earned: 230 bells. YES TOM NOOK, IT IS TOO HARD. Can I ok boomer Tom Nook? He did give me the map tho

When you write a letter, it goes in the letter section. When you mail it, it appears behind Pelly on the shelf

Nook has no new tasks for me right now, so he said to go help out some villagers! Yeeeee!!
Ok so when you talk to a villager, you can ask them for a job. They’ll tell you what it is - usually delivering or picking something up! So Leigh wants her camera back from Liz. I’m glad im documenting this because I’ll def forget. On our way to Liz, we’ll get more jobs
Camofrog is the next one - he wants me to get his handkerchief from Leigh... WHO LITERALLY LIVES 10 STEPS AWAY! Lazy. Anyway, yeah that’s why I’m here Leigh. The job for Camofrog is done!
Camofrog gave me an outfit in return. Off to Olivia’s

Ok, Olivia’s job is to get her picturebook from Leigh. We’ll go back to Leigh after we see Liz, so let’s go
Ran into Iggy. His job is to deliver a glasses case to Liz. Easy peasy!
Found Liz, the popular girl! Delivery complete. Reward: outfit! Then she tells me Leigh’s camera isn’t here, but Olivia has it. UGH
Bob wants me to take clothes to Olivia. Easy enough, gotta hit up Leigh and Olivia next. Leigh tells she gave the picture book to Iggy
Upon delivery, Olivia gave me some furniture that I assume is a statue. Thankfully she had Leigh’s camera!
Ugh wish I had a shovel
Returning Olivia’s picture book earned me an outfit! And returning Leigh’s camera earned me some stationary!
I think that closes out all the jobs... I think? If I missed something pls tell me

Ok, I think I’m going to stop there for today! Time to sign off! To sign off, you talk to the gyroid outside your front door. You can also store an item and set a message for visitors. When you save you go inside and one of your villagers helps you save/quit!
