This week’s music highlight goes to Selena Quintanilla, who was known as the “Queen of Tejano Music” and one of the most significant Mexican-American artists of her time. 🎵
The musical artist for this week’s highlight goes to Vicente “Chente” Fernández, a Mexican cultural icon, known as “El Rey de la Música Ranchera” who throughout his successful career has recorded more than 50 albums! 🎶
Celia Cruz, a Cuban singer known as the "Queen of Salsa Music," was most popular within the 20th century. Many remember her for her recognizable catchphrase “Azúcar,” a symbol of salsa music. Some of her most influential songs include “La Vida Es Un Carnaval” and “Guantanamera.”
Gloria Estefan, the Cuban-American singer, is known for her success within the Latin/dance-pop genre. Her album “Mi Tierra” topped the charts and earned three Grammys including, the award for Best Tropical Latin Album!
Juan Gabriel, the singer-songwriter, also known as “El Divo de Juarez,” is remembered as an icon in Latin music. He was influential as his flamboyant style “broke barriers within the Latin music market.” A few of his most popular songs include “No Tengo Dinero” & “El Noa Noa.”
Jennifer Lopez, also known as J.Lo, is recognized for her influence in the Latin pop movement and Hollywood as “one of the highest-paid Latina actresses.” She performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show with Shakira in 2020. One of her most famous songs is “On The Floor.”
Jenni Rivera, “La Diva de la Banda,” was an icon in the Regional Mexican genre. She produced gold, platinum, and double-platinum records. Throughout her life, she was an advocate for women’s rights and "children subject to abuse.” Many mourned her tragic passing in 2012.
Luis Miguel is known as “El Sol Mexico” and recognized as one of the most popular performers in Latin America. He was awarded a Grammy in 1998 and the “World Music Award for Best Selling Latin Artist.”
Los Tigres del Norte have been one of the most famous norteño bands, and many know them for their popular songs such as “La Puerta Negra.” Together the group of four brothers has received multiple Grammy nominations and awards such as the “Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album.”
