Thread on Chinese #Flankers, i’ll try to keep it brief before it starts giving headache to all including me. So it all started when #China bought SU-27S in 1990s which were sold as SU-27SK & its dual seater variant SU-27UBK “K is Chinese designation from Sukhoi”. Russian SU-27S👇
China got different batches of SU-27SK/UBK until they negotiated licensed production with all kits/parts supplied by Russia. Sukhoi & Shenyang signed contract for 200 SU-27SK to be built in China with designation of J-11A. Shenyang produced around 100 but production was stopped.
SU-27SK/J-11A couldn’t fire Chinese weapons like PL-series nor could drop guided bombs/munitions. There were other issues in quality of kits & tech like radar,FCS etc
Here is J-11A, SU-27UBK (dual seater) & J-11A/SU-27SK with H-6 bomber. There is no difference b/w J-11A & SU-27SK
So far everything is simple we’ve 100 odd SU-27SK/UBK with another 100 J-11A assembled by Shenyang from kits. Due to limitations of both Shenyang aerospace in early 2000s showed prototype called J-11B based on SU-27SK but everything indigenous avionics, sensors even engine WS-10A
So here is quick guide into indigenous #Flankers produced by Shenyang AC

J-11B based on SU-27SK
J-11BS dual seater like SU-27UBK
Both of these use WS-10A engines (not all many still use Russian engines) with solid black radar radome & dark camo
Shenyang J-11BS 🆚 PLAAF SU-35S
Blimey thats not a short thread anyway keep going Naval variants

J-11BH single seater & J-11BSH dual with solid black radar nose with lighter PLA Naval camouflage. These aren’t carrier capable. Chinese add “S” for dual seat & “H” Naval

Here is J-11BH from PLA Navy with JF-17
So by now Beijing & Moscow are arguing a but since Shenyang started producing J-11B variants without permission and Russian kits/tech. Anyway understanding is reached by Shenyang AC will not export their indigenous J-11B series. J-11B now can fire every type of Chinese ammunition
In same time period China also bought SU-30MKK for PLAAF & more modernised SU-30MK2 which could fire latest Kh-series anti-ship missiles for PLA Navy both of these are without Canards.

SU-30MK2 with light camo & white nose 🆚 SU-30MKK with darker grey camo & grey radar nose
China needs carrier aircraft so they started negations with Russia about 2 units of SU-33 but it didn’t lead anywhere. Chinese purchased SU-33 prototype which was left in Ukraine after breakup of USSR. Shenyang developed It into J-15 &dual seater J-15S. Only Flankers with Canards
Phew 😅 nearly there. Shenyang developed their ultimate Sino #Flanker J-16 based on SU-30MKK & experiences of J-11BS. It has different camouflages but greyish radar nose. You normally see it showing off PL-15 & PL-10E with new low visibility PLAAF markings

There are prototypes of E/A-18 Growler style based on J-15D with canards and massive wingtip EW pods and J-11D which was rumoured to be inspired from SU-35S. Both of them are prototypes so no need to worry about them. That’s the end of it guys. It wasn’t very hard was it. 😂
