okay guys, here it is, the king: eternal monarch theories thread tw: spoilers
what we possibly know: it's taking LG longer to travel between worlds. In episode 9, he tells TE that he will be back soon and that it’s like visiting the next town over. Later in the episode, he tells TE that if he is late, it’s because he is on his way.
In episode 10, he starts becoming late to things and losing track of time. In the same episode, he meets TE twice. In both times, significant time had passed since they had last seen each other.
what we possibly know: for LG, time stops for longer with every use of the portal. time will eventually freeze or move slow for him.
Compare the first episode when LG first travels between worlds. We see LL making red paint and the bowl falling. Time stops for about a second. As episodes continue, time seems to stop for longer and longer.
Eventually, Time will freeze for LG or it will move very, very slowly for him (he will become quite literally, the title, eternal). In both meetings with TE in episode 10, LG does not have the intention to stay long.
In the first meeting, he tells her he was just going to hear her voice and leave and that he is not entirely there. In the second meeting, he straight up tells her he has to go back.
Both times, he was surprised to see her and displayed quite a bit of emotion. In the VO, he talks about disappearing + we see that at the end of ep. 10. It’s possible that LG can only visit these moments of time in the past very briefly. He also hints about eternal life in ep. 9
ok, so that was really fun talking about what is currently happening/building up to but let's talk about things that MAY happen. these are all just fun theories of course. first: Luna will impersonate TE in some way
The only benefit to Luna is that she might team up with LL and create conflict. Her only purpose is that she is pretty much TE. Considering that LL had already told his henchmen that he wants them to find Luna AND that he has TE's badge, I could totally see this happening.
Luna will do anything for money and LL was already grabbing/replacing dopplegangers for people who were close to the king (ex. the one pregnant lady who is close with the PM).
what may happen: TE dies. In episode 7, Na Ri tells TE “one of the dopplegangers end up dying, that’s the rule of the universe”. At this point, she does not know of Luna's existence but she thinks about JY/JES. This is foreshadowing at either Luna or TE dying.
I'm more likely to believe that it TE is the one who will die because we suddenly start hearing her voice overs in episode 8, almost as if she is understanding things better. She also mentions a premonition that "this" will be short lived.
alrighty, now, are you still with me? this is the tricky part. that darn CCTV footage from 2022. this took a while for me to really unravel so play along with me. when LG watched that clip, he knew the clip was wrong bc TE wasn’t wearing that outfit that day (her bday in 2022)
In that moment, how did he know that TE didn’t wear that specific outfit on that day? It’s because he had already lived it! This next part is hard to follow:
LG is in the future in 2022, spends TE birthday with her, remembers the day/outfit. Present day LG sees the 2022 clip and isn’t alarmed by the fact that it’s from 2022, but that TE is wearing different clothes which hints, that the future could change and is not static or set
TE's phone case: back to the future. BTTF is about how you can go back in the past, change things, and come out with a different future than you had started in. If TE dies, this is how LG will save her, by going to these moments in time in the past and then to the future
what may happen: LG helps TE and SJ capture LL in 2020 Korea, at this point, LL is stuck there. With LG being frozen in time/experience brief moments in time, it’s possible he helped TE and SJ capture LL.
In the first episode, they are both interrogating LL but the report in their hands is one from the Kingdom of Corea. The audience has not been shown this report/document yet but she receives help from someone so that they are able to capture him in Korea.
There’s a lot of conversation about where someone should be punished and it seems like LG+JY want to punish them in Corea. It might be possible that LL is stuck in Korea because the gate/obelisks closed. There is a reference in earlier episodes that the flute is a key and lock.
okay, and one more big thing: yes, there is a transcendental power (TE herself alludes to feeling it in one of the episodes) and yes, it is the boy at the book store with the yoyo (red string = fate), there's so much evidence of this that i don't want to bring up here
but essentially, i believe his role is to balance the universe. TE does a voice over in episode 7, asking "who is keeping the balance?". In episode 8, she talks about the power restoring balance. don't forget, this kid was the reason she lost her ID in the first place.
whew, the tin foil hat is ON today! ONE last theory, just for fun: LG saves himself. The moment I saw that scene I knew it was future LG coming back to save him. With all this time travel stuff, it’s becoming more and more true. There’s no concrete evidence yet but I'm hoping
thanks for letting me play out my delusions and kudos to anyone who read this long ass thread. this will hold me off until next week when the episodes fuck me up and this is all wrong
