Back in the early 1990s, when the route of the high speed Channel Tunnel rail link was being drawn up, the route being planned included a tunnel under the centre of London with a subterranean through station under KX for both international and domestic services.

At this time I was working in the East Side Offices at KX. In late 1992 a spare room next to our office was used by the developers to house a sectional model of the proposed subterranean station for KX. Occasionally groups of people would visit to look and discuss.

When there were no visitors we popped next door for a look. These photos were taken in December 1992. They show KX with the main station removed to reveal the new subterranean platforms. Note that the new concourse between KX and StP meant demolition of GN Hotel.

St Pancras was also modelled but not many changes to show in these photos. Still a nice model though.
