It was a rocky start... fans made it clear he wasn't welcome, and the club lost 5-0 in only his second game

His first LaLiga goals came against Barcelona at Atotxa, and he bagged another brace!


He scored the extra time winner in a Copa tie, and then the opener in a 2-1 home win over Real Madrid.

After a stalemate in his first derby, Aldo went goal-crazy

His goals kept flowing and fired Real Sociedad to 5th in LaLiga and a place in the UEFA Cup!

In the summer of 1990, Real Sociedad continued their new policy of signing foreigners.
Aldo was joined by 2 fellow Brits, Dalian Atkinson and Kevin Richardson

The 1990/91 season continued to be bright for Aldridge.
His penalty on the opening day won the game and then he scored the crucial goal to see them past Lausanne in the UEFA Cup

La Real struggled to match their success of the previous season, but goals continued for Aldo, and came in famous wins

They beat Real Madrid 3-2 at Santiago Bernabéu

Then they went to Camp Nou...
Johan Cruyff's Barça had just been crowned champions, but Aldo bagged another brace in a 3-1 win

The Catalans were Aldo's favourite opponent!

Fitting that these were his last goals for the club

Aldo finished 2nd in the Pichichi, just 2 behind Emilio Butragueño's 19...
While Aldo immersed himself in the local culture and learned Spanish, his young family struggled to settle, and he handed in a transfer request in 1991

The fans gave him an ovation and the club honoured him with a shirt
