Our Police force constitutes approx 15-20 lakh police personnel.
This number is very small as compared to our huge population which will surpass china in a few years. We need more personnel in the police to cover our population.

Our Police is not the best in the world as per qualitative measures around the world. Police reforms are pending for decades.
IPS is the institution that hires top officers in the police but still lower cadre people are hired on very poor benchmarks.

Few Benchmarks on which these are hired :
a) Good Height
b) Bribery
c) Nepotism
This, in turn, produces poor quality individuals who are not suitable for policing the crime or any incident.

Lack of Independence of this institution is also the reason why our police sometimes fail us.
-Political Pressure
-Rich Individuals
-Poor attitude towards low caste & poor
-Lack of empathy towards helpless
-Lack of politeness in talking to citizens

Also, our Police personnel doesn't have the proper training to control many situations such as riots.
They don't know what to do in case of any large mob gathers and create ruckus in the city.

Lack of Gears, equipment, no/less use of technology by police is not suitable in our environment at this time.
Also, Juggling between or escaping the jurisdiction is an old card which police play when they don't want to investigate complicated matters.

Reforms I propose:
1) Education based entrance in Police
2) Proper training of those joining
3) Regular mandatory 15 days training in every 6 months
by Military training officers for every police official
4) Teach the use of equipment, Latest Gadgets &
Technology

5) Riot control Training to them.
6) Teach them to talk politely with people. Let go of this
rudeness towards people.
7) Always Eager to help the case. They are duty-bound to
