If a genie granted me one magic wish, I would wish for a temporary worldwide moratorium on brain-machine interface research and experimentation.
That bridge which will need to be crossed at some point, and I am sympathetic to the disabled among us yearning for the freedom it promises, but we are barreling toward it recklessly with far too little foresight.
It is the Pandora's Box of Pandora's Boxes.

The horrors this tech *could* enable are almost indescribable. If not approached carefully and with strict oversight, we are risking the destruction of life not only in a conventional sense but also the concept of "being alive" itself.
Everything our species has ever accomplished is negated if the human mind is not held sacrosanct and becomes subject to the whims of anyone bold enough cross that boundary and intent on subjugating and enslaving others.
God help us all if the first researchers to truly solve the puzzle are also willing to cross humanity's Maginot Line of ethical scientific decency while also carrying a pinch or more of sociopathy tucked away within themselves.

Even Mengele's abhorrent acts could be dwarfed.
(I would also want world peace, but I honestly believe brain-machine interface research currently poses a bigger threat to the future than world war.
However, I do recognize the two concepts are not necessarily exclusive to each other and one could easily lead to the other.)
