HAUNTED STORIES FROM DELHI . Stories and anecdotes that i have collected over last 20 years from my wanderings in Delhi. I will keep adding as i go through my old diaries but here for 2 for tonight .

1) The call center - Those were the days of BPO boom in gurgoan in mid 2000
This fairly new call center had started operations in an office that was built on old graveyard . Other than occasional scary sightings that someone claimed on smoke breaks, it was pretty regular place . There was an employee - Extremely good at her job ,
She was in outbound call center making sales calls to sell mobile phone plans . She was extremely good and had hit rate that was way above all others . One day she was moved to inbound customer care due to staffing issues . After few calls , she got into long
Inbound call that lasted about 45 mins . After the call she seemed very distressed and left work stating health reasons and didn’t return back at all . Also, next day her 2 colleagues that were sitting on either side of her while she received the call - died .
They pulled out call recording of that 45 min call . Although the call lasted 45 mins, there were no voices on the recording . Just muffled sounds.
The HR went to her house but the owner said that no such person lived there. Background checks were virtually unknown those times
HR was somehow able to trace the address of her parents through her educational documents .
Her parents were in complete disbelief when they told them about their daughter. There was no way their dutiful and diligent daughter could just vanish from the job.
Especially when she had been dead for 4 years.
2) Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal - This place is 14th century hunting lodge situated near jhandewalan and karol bagh metro station inside the central ridge . There is no documented history of the place as to who & why it was built - there are couple of different versions
But since its not relevant to the haunted part , I will skip the history. The sign outside the place warns the tourist to leave before sun set . There was a time when delhi police actually use to cordon off the place in the evening
The locals have witnessed very shrill crying of woman coming out of the mahal at night and there have been many such reports. Many years ago - the kite manja makers ( kite thread) of karol bagh used to leverage the large courtyard and airy surroundings of the mahal to
dry their manja. They finally stopped going after strange instances. They used to fall asleep ( even when they didnt want to) and someone used to pull their hair and ears very badly and used to laugh on their faces . Even if they wanted they could not open their eyes as if they
were under spell .
Then just few years ago , a very famous photo walk group was conducting photo walk here. 2 of the walkers went deep inside the jungle and saw strange white well . They took the photograph of the well and went to call others
When others came , the well was not there. Also in the photograph while you could see the jungle , the well was not visible. In both of their cameras .
Now one other photographer ( who was not part of the walk) , heard this story from his friends who were part
of the photowalk and decide to go to mahal alone next day. He also saw the white well and more importantly , the well was showing up in his camera. All excited , he called up his friends and they decided to meet next day in his house .
Next day, the man was found dead in his apartment . The house was bolted from inside, no forced entry , nothing stolen. Cause of death - drowning . There was no bath tub in the house, even the bucket in the bathroom had no water . There was no photo of well in the camera.
Third story is up -
3) Khooni nadi of Rohini - There are different versions of this one . However , all have few commonalities . It allures people to itself and drowns them . It’s at max a stream ( as you can see from picture ) and not deep at all
And yet people drown in it . Here is the version that I have heard from old timers .
Rohini - prior to becoming this large residential suburb was largely agricultural. The son of rich farmer made a girl pregnant . He promised to marry her and asked her
To meet him at the nadi . The girl left her house wearing red suit and dupatta and never returned back . Her body was recovered from the nadi after few days
Soon after the farmers with land around the nadi started hearing crying noises
The farm animals who used to drink water from the nadi became aggressive , attacked people and started behaving weirdly . The weeds and poisonous plants started taking over the land and crops started to die
As urbanization started and houses started coming up around the nadi . Some people who lived in the area starred getting this weird feeling of jumping in the nadi . Most of them had been cheated upon and it was as if someone was calling them to safety
And alluring them to jump to end the pain . Also the local tantric and babas also started recommending people to put grains and fruits etc in the Nadi to people who came to them with problems
One day - a man who was depressed jumped in the nadi - however he immediately regretted it and managed to come out alive . He described to his friend the entire story - He was standing on the bridge , depressed because of failed love and he started hearing
These soothing voices of woman in his head - inviting him to jump , telling him she will take care of her , telling him it will be ok and pain will end and so he jumped
But he regrets it immediately and tries to swim out and that’s when he felt someone
Pulling him down and holding his legs . With much different difficulty he was able to get out .

After few days the man was found dead in what appeared to be suicide . Hanging from fan with red dupatta around his neck . However what could not be explained was
The dupatta was ages old and tattered to pieces . Even if someone pulled it slightly it would be shredded to pieces - so how did it take weight of a man ?
STORY 4 and 5 updated . These are from 80s and one do them got quiet a bit of international media attention .
4) That corner bungalow at Green Park : Green park is one of the most expensive real estate in Delhi . Lots of old money and large bungalows.
The famous rajander da dhabba then was a actual makeshift dhabba on the road opposite the market it owns now . Behind the dhabba was a large dumpster and behind which were few bungalows . In one of the bungalows lived an elderly couple . They had 2 sons
One was settled in US with wife and 5-6 yr old kid . The other was a drug addict who was thrown out . That summer the son was to travel to meet them from US . The couple were eagerly waiting and buying lots of toys etc for the grand kid
However , they were found murdered one night . Nothing was stolen and it looked like a property dispute . The son travelled from US with family for the last rites . Since his son was too young to understand - they didn’t tell him about the death and wanted to
Wrap everything in 1-2 days . The kid spent most of the days with his maternal grandparents and was with his parents at his dada , dadi house only for couple of hour. And he was mostly with some relative or servant on the 1st floor barsati so that he was nt subjected to mourning
On the way back to US , parents were generally talking with the kid if he liked spending time with Nani, nana. He said he did but not as much as playing with dada dadi on the 1st floor with the new toys they opened up for him .
There were stories of couple sometimes laughing and sometimes sobbing and sounds and lights of kids toys coming from the house ...
Story 5 - House number W13 of Greater Kailash . Another elderly couple were murdered in the house in 1986 and their bodies were buried in the water tank behind the house . It was suspected that their yoga guru killed them for property as the couple did not
Have any heirs. The neighbors complained of screams and bone chilling voices emanating from this house .Some also saw “phantom like figures” walking down the terrace of the house . There also have been reports of faces looking out of the window
In 2016 , after almost 27 years the house was bought by a family who conducted 3 day long havan prior to revamping the house . The police has also found that it was actually a robbery by local gang and not yoga guru . Haven’t heard anything ever since
