fonts exponentially worse than comic sans, a thread:
helvetica neue black extended: used by wanna be cool artists and brands, but have zero actual taste for extended type
Din: weird mid 2000s tech vibe. if this font were a person, it’d wear sneakers with jeans and run to class.
Pacifico: just an amateur script used by bloggers or bakeries. one of the more cringe scripts.
Manhattan Darling: she needs no explanation
Moonflower: ruled tumblr, i wish to never see it again.
ITC American Typewriter: screams microsoft word and “i’m not like other fonts”
Arial: just download Helvetica
Futura Medium (not including condensed or other variants): beloved by new designers bc they are told this is the holy grail typeface. too pointy, the lowercase j hurts my soul.
Myriad: a default font in adobe, so i i’ve always hated it for no reason and always excited to change it.
Bodoni: doesn’t look good as a headline, or body copy. the hell is it for.
Colors of Autumn: we get it, you only use dafont.
Brandon Grotesque: used by quirky DTC brands with tongue in cheek copy ONLY.
Montserrat: the R’s and Q’s make me aggressive goodbye.
Planet Kosmos: used by shitty street wear brands and hometown soundcloud rappers.
Playfair Display: used and abused by too many lowpony, hoop wearing, NYC based ‘feminist’ writers.
finally, Bebas Neue: amateur, only looks kinda good in some headlines, can’t trust it. incredibly overused.
“bUt wHaT aBoUt” there are a lot of fonts that i (me, personally) think are worse that comic sans and papyrus. what makes a font bad is how it’s used, and fonts like comic sans are almost always used in innocent settings therefore they are more immune to criticism.
fonts that fall into cliche tropes are the ones that are actually bad when they are used under the thought that they look good. except for arial, fuck arial.
if you learned anything from this thread, please pay attention to type. it speaks volumes of your work and who you are as a creative. never ever ever half ass it because it will immediately ruin your design forever. good type never goes unnoticed.
