I’m thinking of putting together an alternate history of the #WWE Championship with a caveat. Which option should I take?

1. Title changes hands by DQ/CO
2. Only one-on-one matches count
3. Each wrestler may only hold the title once.
This could take a while...
Some rules:
- Title changes hands by any kind of singles victory (inc. battles royale, no tags).
- Champion retains in a draw.
- If the champion wasn’t champion in the real timeline, all singles matches will be considered title matches,
- I’m using http://profightdb.com
The inaugural WWWF champion, “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers, is crowned on April 25, 1963.

He would go on to lose the title by DQ to Bobo Brazil less than a month later.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Bobo Brazil’s first reign would end via a countout loss to “Handsome” Johnny Barend on June 8, 1963 in Philadelphia.

On July 15 in the same city, Bobo would decisively take the title back.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Bobo Brazil’s 2nd reign would last over 4 years until a submission loss on August 21, 1967. Dutch wrestler Hans Mortier would become the new champion.
Just over 2 months later, Bruno Sammartino would win his first WWWF Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Bruno would hold the title for almost a year (just 2 days short) when The Sheik took the championship on a count-out.

Sammartino would win the title back less than a month later via DQ.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
1969 & 1970 followed a pattern for WWWF Champion Sammartino. He would lose the championship 4 times, but win it back around a month later each time.

Waldo Von Erich, Ivan Koloff, Crusher Verdu and Bepo Mongol would enjoy short reigns in this timeframe.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
On January 18 1971, Bruno would shockingly lose clean to the “Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff in Madison Square Garden!

The new champion’s 2nd reign only lasted until February 8th when Pedro Morales won the title.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Pedro’s great rival would turn out to be Stan ‘I told you to shave those sideburns’ Stasiak.
Stasiak would win the title in August 1971, but lose it back to Morales in October in a Texas Death match.
2 years later, Stasiak ended Pedro’s reign once again.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
On December 10 1973, Bruno Sammartino would win the WWWF Championship yet again from the man from Planet Stasiak.

Bruno’s 10th reign would last for the whole of 1974.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
1975 was a lot more eventful for Bruno as he would lose the title twice before regaining it shortly after.

“The Golden Greek” Spiros Arion would win the title via DQ.

Later, the villainous Nazi Waldo von Erich would win his 2nd WWWF Title by count-out.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
In January 1976, “Superstar” Billy Graham took the title by count-out, but his first reign would be short as Bruno won it back the next month.

But for Sammartino, this was just the beginning of a hectic year.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
1976: Year of the Stans

In April, Stan Hansen beat Bruno for the WWWF Title via referee stoppage. Bruno took the title back in June by count-out.

Stan Stasiak then got his 3rd title before Bruno won a Sicilian Stretcher match to escape 1976 as Champion.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
January ‘77: Ken Patera would win the WWWF Championship by count-out.

Bruno would try to regain the title in his preferred Texas Death match, but Patera retained in a draw!

Gorilla Monsoon was then brought in as a referee and Bruno got his title back.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
For the first time since his loss to Ivan Koloff, Bruno Sammartino lost the WWWF Championship decisively to “Superstar” Billy Graham on April 30, 1977.

Graham would later strengthen his hold on the title with victory in a bloody rematch.

#WWE #AlternateHistory #AlsoReality
Dusty Rhodes would take the WWWF Title via countout in September ‘77, but Graham would soon regain the title in a brutal Texas Death match.

In December, Mil Mascaras became champ via referee stoppage and would hold on to the title into the new year.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Graham would regain the title via DQ in January ‘78 before losing to Bob Backlund for his first WWWF Championship reign.

Billy Graham would take the belt back in March leading to a steel cage showdown in which Backlund won his 2nd title.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Backlund would lose the title twice more in ‘78.

1. Ivan Koloff would earn his 3rd title reign via a stoppage. Backlund won the title back the next month.

2. Peter Maivia would win the belt by countout. Another countout gave Backlund the title back.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
1979 would be the most controversial year in the newly-renamed WWF Championship’s history.

Backlund lost the title cleanly to Antonio Inoki in Japan. After a rematch ended in a no contest, Inoki refused the title. Backlund would then beat Bobby Duncum for the vacant title.

#WWE
On June 16 1980, Bob Backlund’s 6th WWF Championship reign ended at the hands of the hottest heel in the business at the time - Larry Zbyszko.

The championship would then become the centrepiece of one of the mot notorious feuds of the 1980s.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Larry Zbyszko had skyrocketed to the top of the wrestling world after the betrayal of his mentor and friend Bruno Sammartino.

This violent feud came to a head at the Showdown at Shea where Bruno escaped the steel cage for his 15th WWF Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Bruno Sammartino’s 15th reign would be his longest clocking in at almost 6 years.

The WWF championship would next change hands at Wrestlemania 2 in the WWF-NFL Battle Royale with André The Giant winning the title. Bret Hart finished a close second.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
The WWF Championship would change hands in a battle royale for the 2nd time in a row at March 1987’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.

This time, Hercules would win the match and the title. Billy Jack Haynes was the last man eliminated.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Hercules reign would end at the hands of Hulk Hogan in a dark match at a Superstars taping on March 21.

Hogan started his 1st reign just in time to defend the title at Wrestlemania 3 against André The Giant in front of well over 93 fans.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
At Saturday Night’s Main Event in November 1987, King Kong Bundy would avenge his Wrestlemania 2 loss to Hogan via countout and take the title.

Just 2 weeks later, he would lose the WWF Championship to Bam Bam Bigelow in Madison Square Garden.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Everybody’s got a price for the Million Dollar Man and that includes the WWF Championship which Ted DiBiase would win via countout on February 22, 1988.

Even Jack Tunney couldn’t overturn this one.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Donald Trump would controversially force DiBiase to defend the WWF Championship in a 14-man tournament at Wrestlemania IV (and Ted wasn’t even given a bye!).

“Macho Man” Randy Savage would defeat Ted in the final for his 1st WWF Title.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Macho Man would only hold on to the title for about a month before a disqualification loss in a dark match at a Superstars taping.

André The Giant would be the man to take the title for his 2nd reign as WWF Champion.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
At WrestleFest in July 1988, Hulk Hogan defeated André The Giant in a steel cage match in front of less than 93,000 fans.

This would start his 2nd WWF Championship reign and the Hulkster would end the year as champion.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Hulk Hogan would unwisely opt to defend his WWF Championship in the 1989 Royal Rumble. After Hulk was eliminated by Akeem and the Big Boss Man, Big John Studd would go on to win the match and claim his only WWF Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Ric Flair would win the vacant WWF Championship in the 1992 Royal Rumble with a tear in his eye. Having entered at number 3, it was an incredible performance.

Ric would lose the title the next day to Hulk Hogan at a house show in Montreal via countout.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Sid Justice would then win the WWF Championship in a battle royale on February 23, 1992 in Madison Square Garden.

Hogan would get his one-on-one rematch at Wrestlemania VIII, where he would win the title back via DQ.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
At Wrestlemania VIII, Papa Shango would cost Sid Justice the WWF Championship by getting him disqualified. This would give the title back to Hulk Hogan for his 4th reign.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Hulk Hogan’s 4th reign would be his most successful as he would hold the WWF Championship for over a year.

This would include a Wrestlemania X impromptu defence against Rumble winner Yokozuna who had just won a no. 1 contendership match against Bret Hart.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
*Wrestlemania IX

Twitter needs an edit button.
At King of the Ring 93, Yokozuna would use the old exploding camera technique to take the WWF Championship from Hulk Hogan.

#WWE #AlternateHistory #AlsoReality
What does it take to be a hero?

Apparently, a countout win over Yokozuna at Summerslam 93 is enough. In this #AlternateHistory, Lex Luger’s massive celebration would make sense as this win would give him the WWF Championship.

#WWE
Lex Luger’s WWF Championship reign would go very well and he would end 1993 as champion.

He would even go on to successfully defend the championship by the skin of his teeth in the 1994 Royal Rumble by retaining in a joint victory with Bret Hart.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Wrestlemania X would be a busy night for the WWF Championship.

Mr Perfect would disqualify Lex Luger giving the title back to Yokozuna who would then go on to lose the title in the main event to Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Bret Hart would lose the WWF Championship at King of the Ring 1994 after Jim Neidhart caused him to lose to Diesel by DQ.

Commentator Art Donovan commented: “How much does this guy weigh?”

#WWE #AlternateHistory
On June 29 1994, Diesel would lose the WWF Championship via DQ to Razor Ramon.

Razor would then lose the title to Shawn Michaels 2 nights later on Raw after interference from Diesel.

Even in an #AlternateHistory, it’s good to be in the Kliq.

#WWE
On January 24 1995, Shawn Michaels would be forced to defend the WWF Championship in a battle royale. HBK would bizarrely protest by eliminating himself from the match!

The British Bulldog would then win the match and the title last eliminating Eli Blu.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Bulldog’s WWF Championship reign would last only a day as he would lose via DQ to Bob Backlund on Action Zone!

Bob Backlund’s remarkable 7th reign would be over 14 years after his 6th.

Bret would then regain the title a month later at King of the Ring in a high stakes Kiss My Foot match.

At King of the Ring 96, Ahmed Johnson would defeat Goldust for both the WWF and Intercontinental Championships!

His reign as WWF Champion would continue for the rest of the year.

#WWE #AlternateHistory

November 15 1997 - At Madison Square Garden, Vader’s WWF Championship reign came to an end at the hands of the unstoppable Kane!

Kane would go on to end the year as champion.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
The Undertaker needed 3 Tombstone Piledrivers to end Kane’s WWF Championship reign at Wrestlemania 14. This would be Taker’s 4th reign.

It is now a commonly held superstition that attacking Pete Rose brings bad luck.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Kane would become WWF Champion for the 2nd time on the June 1st edition of Raw with a win over the Undertaker.

Kane would then go on to successfully defend the title in a first blood match against Steve Austin.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Kane’s 2nd WWF Championship reign would last 28 days. The night after their First Blood match at King of the Ring, Steve Austin would get another shot at the title and take it after a stunner.

#WWE #AlternateHistory

A 14-man tournament was held to crown a new champion at Survivor Series. This was won by the Rock with the help of Mr. McMahon.

#WWE #AlternateHistory #AlsoReality
The Rock’s 1st reign as WWF Champion would last less than a month as Mankind would defeat him for the title by knockout at Rock Bottom: In Your House in December 1998.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Mankind had a nice day as WWF champion, but that was all.

The title would be on the line the next night in a Fatal-4-Way against The Rock, Ken Shamrock and Big Boss Man, but it turned out to be more of a 3-on-1 handicap match. The Rock would pin Mankind.

#WWE #AlternateHistory

Stephanie McMahon’s interference would backfire costing RVD the match and giving The Rock his 8th WWF Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
October 15 2001 - A huge match on Raw for the WCW and WWF Championships between The Rock and RVD ended with interference from Chris Jericho.

This would be RVD’s 4th WWF Championship and he’d hold it into the new year.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
RVD’s reign would end on January 26 2002 when he would again try to add the Hardcore Championship to his waist.

The Undertaker would defeat RVD and win his 6th WWF Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
2 weeks later, the unthinkable would happen on Smackdown.

After interference from Al Snow and The Rock, Undertaker would lose the WWF and Hardcore Championships to Maven!

#WWE #AlternateHistory
On February 22, Goldust would take advantage of the 24/7 rule to pin Maven backstage after a brutal beatdown by the Undertaker.

#WWE
Oops - we missed 3 title changes before Undertaker defeated RVD.

William Regal would become WWF Champion on Smackdown Jan 15.

Edge would win the title at a house show before the Rumble.

Regal would regain the title at the Rumble. Before losing it to RVD.
#WWE #AlternateHistory

Now that’s sorted, back to Goldust’s epic reign that started on February 26 2002.

#WWE #AlternateHistory #Oops
2 weeks later on Raw, Al Snow would modify an old Yokozuna trick (see King of the Ring 93) and then hit a braunbuster on a trash can to win his 1st WWF Championship!

Mick Foley may feel this taints the championship somewhat...

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Maven would take advantage of the 24/7 rule and steal a win away from Big Show by pinning his mentor Al Snow on Smackdown to become WWF Champion for the 2nd time.

Let us all celebrate with his awesome entrance theme.

#WWE #AlternateHistory

Shortly after, Spike would successfully defend the title against Crash Holly (twice) and Al Snow.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Later that night at Wrestlemania 10-VIII, The Hurricane would use the element of surprise to fly in and win the WWF Championship from Spike Dudley.

Hurricane would then successfully defend the title against the Godfather.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Holy betrayal, Hurricane!

The Hurricane would be betrayed by his sidekick Mighty Molly, who would then become the 2nd ever female WWF Champion!

This is what happens when Jonathan Coachman is on the scene rather than ace reporter Gregory Helms.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Despite her efforts to escape, Molly Holly’s reign was ended by Christian who had clearly been reading the chapter in The Art of War that deals with slamming the top half of a door in someone’s face.

This would be Christian’s 1st reign as WWF Champion.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Christian would attempt to end the madness by escaping Wrestlemania X八 in a taxi, but Maven would roll him up to win his 3rd WWF Championship.

Maven would then steal Christian’s taxi and make a quick getaway.

March 26 - June 9 2002: The controversial usage of the 24/7 rule led to utter chaos in the WWF Championship scene.

There would be an astonishing 65 title changes during this time!

#WWE #AlternateHistory

These would be the 1st title reigns for Raven, Bubba Ray, Dreamer, Richards, Stasiak, Credible, Booker T, Stratus and Terri.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
In this #WWE #AlternateHistory:

- Stan and Shawn Stasiak would become the first father-son duo to both win the WWE Championship.

- Stevie Richards would be the first WWE Champion (not WWF) thanks to his win at Insurrextion.
Who would save the WWE Championship from this chaotic time?

Straight out of Blackpool, he’s William Regal
His rhymes so intense, they shouldn’t be legal.

At a house show on June 10th, Regal would win his 8th WWE Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
Regal would almost go a whole month with the title (which must have felt like 10 years given the few months prior).

On the July 1 episode of Raw, RVD would hit a 5 Star Frog Splash to defeat Regal and win his 6th WWE Championship.

#WWE #AlternateHistory
With his feet on the ropes, Chris Benoit would win the WWE and Intercontinental Championships from RVD on the July 29 2002 Raw.

The Rock would become WWE Champion for the 11th time 2 weeks later despite a distraction from Brock Lesnar.

After some Brock Lesnar interference, Kurt Angle would pin Big Show to become WWE Champion.

#WWE #AlternateHistory #AlsoReality
