in hindsight, i don’t love how this spread turned out but it was fun to make https://twitter.com/chescaleigh/status/1253724135903158272
i dunno why, but i’m really into planets right now. i thought the page was blank without labels, so i decided to name these after important people in my life. i used a stencil and molotow masking pen to get the circles mostly perfect
something else that’s fun is putting down masking tape & painting on top of it. once the page dries you pull off the tape & you get a very cool negative space effect
one of my favorite exercises is to pick a word & try to write it as many different ways as possible. watercolor makes it especially fun since you can blend the letters & there’s really no right or wrong. one of my fave techniques is adding salt to the page to spread the color
i’m admittedly bad at color therory, so i made a blending chart in my journal. it’s super easy to do, you make a grid & write the colors along the bottom & side in the same order. then you blend accordingly. i reference this spread before i plan my pages, hence why it’s flagged
switching it up it up this am with a lil collage action

oh snap! filled up my entire journal! now i can move on to one of the dozen other empty notebooks taking up space in my home!
since y’all seem into the hand lettering flow, here’s yesterday’s page. i’m really into this drippy look. kinda looks like icesicles!
Today’s spread
floral spread
Getting in the habit of designing my spread for the next day before I actually write in my journal. Really excited about how this turned out.

tomorrow’s spread. Very excited about this new masking marker from Goya for negative space designs! 🌿✨
Here’s how the masking liquid works! After you draw with it, you wait for it to dry & then can paint on top of it with your medium of choice. I used water color pens. Then when it’s completely dry, you erase the masking fluid.
Still experimenting with negative space. This time around I captured my process on IG Live. Watch here: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CDcSMcJpAUR/?igshid=h7e4jw5z9svq

I almost don’t wanna write on these...
I just got this very cute little watercolor set and dare I say...I like it more than my watercolor pens? 😬
