Start 2TE Value Thread 2.0. If you missed my previous thread about TE value in a start 2TE using the dynasty trade calculator, you can check it out here: https://twitter.com/jsnake_DFF/status/1261366202531799047?s=20
In this thread, I am going to look at a five year aggregate of Value-Based Drafting (VBD) data for all positions and showing where TEs in a start 2TE dynasty league should be drafted in a start-up. (12 team, SF, start 2TE, Half-PPR w/ TEs getting 1PPR or 2x of WR/RB).(1/10)
The premise of VBD, according to @Football_Guys the creator, is “the value of a player is determined not by the number of points he scores, but by how much he outscores his peers at his particular position.” I will be comparing all players to the position's worst starter.(2/10)
For example, I will be using the TE24 as the baseline value to find the VBD of TEs in a 12 team start 2TE, SF league (24 starting TEs). VBD was originally created to use projections for in-season to find value in a redraft or keeper league.(3/10)
I am using a different philosophy and using 5 years’ worth of fantasy football finishes to look at how valuable each positional rank has been throughout the years and relating this to the league settings listed above. Now let's dig in. (4/10)
In the 1st round, the TE picks are TE1 pick #3, TE2 pick #5, TE3 pick #8, and TE4 pick #12. This may seem risky to pass up on other positions, but having at least 2 higher tier TEs will provide an advantage to your team. (5/10)
The value increase for TEs is very similar to the QB increase in a start 2QB league. Once you start thinking about these positions the same, your team will be ready to dominate. Now, let's dig into round 2. (6/10)
Another 4 TEs should be drafted before the end of the 3rd round. According to the aggregate VBD, grabbing TEs and QBs early and often is the best strategy to make the most points for your team.(7/10)
The pics can also be used to look at where QBs in either a SF or start 2QB league should be drafted. Now, for all of you interested in rounds 4,5, and 6, I'm posting them below. You'll again notice how important it is to draft QBs and TEs early when looking at VBD values.(8/10)
One downside of looking at aggregate VBD data is the individual player fantasy finishes change constantly and it does not include how important young and up-and-coming players, as well as rookies, are to maintaining a balanced dynasty team. (9/10)
I hope everyone uses this information to help value TEs and QBs in SF/Start 2TE start-up dynasty leagues. Also, please let me know if anything was confusing or unclear. You can also easily plug in your own rankings to this VBD data set and draft the players accordingly. (10/10)
