How @Twitter Papercuts Me Daily
A few times a day I block or ignore trolls leaping into my mentions with comments or slurs that technically don& #39;t violate twitter guidelines. Here& #39;s one from a few minutes ago...

A few times a day I block or ignore trolls leaping into my mentions with comments or slurs that technically don& #39;t violate twitter guidelines. Here& #39;s one from a few minutes ago...

...and i know women, reporters, etc get this same treatment 100x. They& #39;re what i call "papercuts" - things that we& #39;re supposed to shrug off bec the platform has so many other good things.
But each of the interactions has a cost, minimally in time & cumulatively in yuck

...the majority of these accounts are low follower count, who spend all their time leaping into other people& #39;s replies. There& #39;s an easy fingerprint to ID this activity and I& #39;m assuming very little cumulative good they create on the platform.

..."manage your notifications" twitter says. Ok, which of these do you want me to toggle on? Of course i can reduce this to a personal echo chamber if needed but is that the best Twitter can figure out?

...and so as much as i benefit from this site, & love many of the people who work on it, i don& #39;t understand why twitter isn& #39;t more proactive abt these papercuts.
My suggestion has always been to treat unwanted "replies" with a harsher policy stick

...so until more is done to prevent trolls from flying into people& #39;s replies, pooping and flying away, the "papercut" problem will continue and #HealthyConversations is a bs under-resourced initiative
