Meet Kicks! In this thread I'll explain how I made my Adobe @OculusMedium sculpt into a #VRChat avatar.
Here's the Adobe Medium sculpt. At the moment it's way too many polygons for VRChat, but a great base to start with!
First I changed the pose, remeshed and created UV's in ZBrush - used the @SoMuchMonsters "SoMuchZbrush" plugin to speed things up.
Next I baked the mesh and gave it textures in @Substance3D
Then I took the OBJ from Substance and did an initial rig/weight by uploading it to @Mixamo. It worked great but there were a few issues with the tail, which we can fix in the next step.
Next I took the mesh into @blender_org, re-weighted the skin/verts, and added a few more bones to the rig for the tail, hair and ears. I also used CATS to add "fake" visemes so that my hair would stop moving when I spoke - a funny story that I won't explain in detail here lol.
And lastly, I put it all together in Unity. I used the @poiyomi shader (which has great video tutorials for each set of options!) and added dynamic bones to the tail, ears and hair. I also added a plane for the VRChat camera - which gives some details on the avatar.
And then I ran around in #VRChat and had a blast! Here I'm in two of my fave worlds, the "Udon Bird Sanctuary" by @1029chrisB and "Shelter In Place" by @DurkatWork.
In conclusion, here's Kicks performing "Last Surprise" in The Sandbox Dance Lounge by Splinks. :D If you'd like to see more, here's my Artstation page for this project: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/RYPVZW
