I'm doing a little celebration of African music through online "karaoke" & sing-along. If you have a favourite song in an African language you always butcher the lyrics to, now's the time to find the words & maybe find out what they mean.

First up, my own example of @officialinnossb - Yope, sung in Lingala (a language from the Democratic Republic of Congo). The song title means "You too". It's essentially about a girl who wants everything but does absolutely nothing.

. @TiwaSavage decoded the song on @Genius. The depth of this song is more than just a bop. This warms my heart to know that my queen is elevating the struggles of her people & sharing courage for people to go get it by any means.

In today's #Afrikaraoke selection a song by Jabu Khanyile resurfaces in my heart. "Mmalo We" is about the beauty of an African woman & it's sung in 3 languages, isiZulu being the main one with adlibs in seSotho, with some English parts as well. What a throwback

Make way for an unforgettable South African hit. @Sjava_atm & @DjMaphorisa 's isiZulu love song, "Ngempela". The 2017 number still feels fresh & it's probably owed to that distinct guitar on the song as well. @MeloMaoka even brought her microphone out for this #Afrikaraoke
