The first question that @campaign4kehoe and @LeoVaradkar need to confirm is how are they going to change the toxic culture and incompetence in the Department of Defence if they promote an insider?

The second question is will former and serving senior Defence Forces officers be allowed to and encouraged to apply? Surely it’s time we had somebody with ACTUAL expertise in defence and security leading the Department of Defence and advising Government on defence policy?

The job spec suggests not as it actually states that the requirements are merely that you have “an ability to quickly acquire... or have an appreciation of security and military affairs’

They have set the lowest bar possible on defence expertise. On what level is this ok?
