Trigun is an essential 90& #39;s anime, and one of my all-time personal favorites. This is the show that I& #39;ve rewatched the most, and I never get tired of it. It& #39;s time to explore some of the greatest elements of it.
This is about the anime, not the manga, and will contain spoilers.

The star of the show is it& #39;s MC, Vash the Stampede. At first, he just seems like a silly goofball with a cool coat, and the show itself is just fun action. But as the show keeps going we get to know the real Vash, and just like the show itself there& #39;s more than meets the eye.
Vash& #39;s refusal to kill is something that& #39;s shown to have caused him severe pain throughout his long life. It& #39;s not always easy to make the right choice, but that shouldn& #39;t stop you from always trying to. Underneath the fun exterior Vash is hurting, physically, and mentally.
At a very young age, Vash was taught that all life is equal and that no one has the right to take the life of another. This is the ideal that he upholds at every cost, while his brother Knives sees him and Vash as superior beings and wishes to eradicate humanity from the planet.
They are butterflies, we are spiders. Vash wants to save both, but Knives sees it as futile. You can& #39;t save both, the spider will starve if it doesn& #39;t get to eat. You can& #39;t save everyone. But Vash will ALWAYS try.
Legato is Knives& #39; most loyal servant, a true misanthrope that loathes humanity (including himself) as much as Knives. To him, Knives and Vash are superior to humans. He& #39;s just a spider. Spiders must be crushed.
There& #39;s no big fight between them. Legato instead creates a scenario where was has a very simple choice; kill him or let his friends die. He can& #39;t save everyone. So he is forced to make the choice by his own will. He pulls the trigger. Kills a human being. Breaking a promise.
Despite this Vash keeps going. He& #39;s taught that you can move on. That a single sin doesn& #39;t mean that you should stop living.
Wolfwood is another great character. He believes that you can& #39;t save everyone, that taking a single life is worth it if you can save a hundred. Meeting Vash changes his worldview, and him as a person. There is another way.
