31 Tips on Improving Your Personal Brand (Thread)

People are constantly asking me how to define your personal brand. I thought I would share what works for me.

Tips 👇
Choosing a Personal Brand

• Marketing is everything we do
• We can choose to create a personal brand, or people will choose it for us
• We can either drive the conversation or sit in the back seat as we watch our personal brand get driven off a cliff.
Start with the 4 A's

• Assess
• Aspire
• Articulate
• Activate
Assess

• Figure out who you are: key strengths and weaknesses
• How do you want your personal brand to be positioned?
• Ask 10 friends or co-workers how they would describe you
Aspire

• What are you aspiring to be?
• Who do you want to be like?
• How do you want to be perceived?
Articulate

• Create a vision statement and tagline
• Figure out your elevator speech
• Explain who you are
Activate

• How are you going to execute on the three steps above?
• Are you going to write, take photos, create videos?
• How many days a week will you produce content?
Tactics Without A Strategy Don't Get You Anywhere

• Don't just jump in, be strategic
• Don't be a jack of all trade, master of none
• When you think Google, you think search engine. What do you want people to think when they say your name?
You Don't Need the Biggest Audience Just the Right Audience

• Don't try to tailor your brand to everyone, just the audience you want to reach
• Create content that aligns with your audience
• It's better for a few people to love you, than many people liking you
It's Okay If You Don't Know Who You Are

• Don't be afraid to experiment
• Talk to people. Ask how they found their personal brand
• Start by doing, the rest will figure itself out
