May is Stroke Awareness Month. I had a stroke before I was born and as a result, I have right hemiplegia which is a form of cerebral palsy. For the rest of the month, each day I’m going to tweet a video of how I do activities of daily living. Today: making turns!
Day 2: how I tie my shoes! #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia
Day 5: how I put on a necklace! #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 6: how I pull my hair back! #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 7: how I take off a long sleeve shirt! (Don’t worry I have an under shirt!) #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 8: how I navigate stairs! I don’t always need to use the hand rail, but I like knowing it’s there on my strong side if I need it. #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 9: how I button a shirt! #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 10: how I pour out a pot! I’ve found that it is easier if my strong hand is on top #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 11: how I trim my nails! #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 12: how I ride a bike! I’ve tried a two-wheel bike (and I know people with hemi who rock them!), but I prefer a tricycle because it helps me feel more balanced. #StrokeAwarenessMonth #Hemiplegia #CerebralPalsy
Day 13: how I style and dry my hair! #strokeawarenessmonth #hemiplegia #cerebralpalsy
Day 16: how someone with hemiplegia can peel an orange! (I have enough function to not need to use the adaptation shown, but I wanted to share in case anyone may find it helpful.) #StrokeAwarenessMonth #CerebralPalsy #Hemiplegia
Day 17: how I play volleyball! #StrokeAwarenessMonth #CerebralPalsy #Hemiplegia
