I want to repeat, as someone who has worked in politics and political comms on campaigns: you don't just get to delete all of your official social media accounts tied to your campaign after raising $300K from using them - that's not how that works! https://twitter.com/JoshuaRush/status/1260967796243959808
I spoke with the Joshua 4 Congress campaign yesterday, and was told that the social media accounts would be back up by end of day and that there would be a plan for better strategy around social media in the future, but this remains to be seen and the accounts are still down.
I find it deeply concerning that this person's mental health is being used as an excuse for completely skirting accountability - people who experience this level of dysfunction and run for office need to have a plan in place for mental health BEFORE running for office.
I also want to reiterate, as both someone who struggles with C-PTSD and autism, the same things that Joshua does, and as someone who has literally helped run social media for members of congress in the past, there should be someone running that social media for him.
I literally left my job as a political comms strategist and associate because I didn't have time to sleep or eat - and that's a problem with politics - but no political figure, especially one with a WHOLE TEAM, gets to make the excuse that social media was too much for them.
When you run for public office, you are no longer just a person, you are a public figure who must be accountable to people, and that means that your social media is no longer just your personal social media, you need a plan for running it strategically.
