Thread: As someone who used to HATE vegans/veganism & now is one, I can absolutely assure you that if your activism is hostile/confrontational you will convince nobody.

You will harm the "cause".
Passionate & informative is good, but being pushy will make people more resistant.
The primary reason being that it's more convenient to believe you're *not* in the wrong. It goes against peoples' comfort zones to admit they are wrong and complicit in something so awful.
You're taught that eating meat is normal, it's vegans that are wrong from a young age.
So for instance I truly believed, as so MANY others, that vegans lie and push propaganda to feel superior. That's it's like a sort of extremist cult. Of course, spend 5 minutes educating yourself and it isn't true, but that doesn't matter.
BC the second they interact with you (either by choice/because you've engaged them unwillingly) & you're hostile/superior/"extreme", you have confirmed that belief. They will not listen to nor believe anything you say after that point & that feeds into their cognitive dissonance
In short, the more extreme you are, the more you confirm their biases & allow them to continue to convince themselves that they're right about everything & your main motivation is feeling superior

Educate - be passionate, be truthful & be direct. But don't go looking for a fight
And sadly, some people genuinely don't care about animals. They just don't. The people who might be swayed are people who genuinely love animals but have normalised eating meat. But some people don't care. And you can't make them, no matter how much you want to.
