We recently had Havoc on @heatrockspod to talk about Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” and it was a reminder that 1995 has a really strong argument for hip-hop’s best year for albums.
It’s obviously subjective but I’m talking across the board vs just the very top. Maybe ‘95 didn’t have anything quite as incandescent as “Illmatic” or “It Takes a Nation of Millions” but the 10th or 15th best album from 1995 easily rivals that of any other year’s.
While I’m on this thread: I didn’t realize until yesterday that ego trip didn’t include ATCQ’s “Beats, Rhymes and Life” amongst their top 25 of the year. I’m not saying it was a world beater but I think BRL has aged pretty well after nearly 25 years.
