1) HI Dave. The reason you’re confused is because your president lied to you. 2) The models made clear that we would not eradicate the virus until we got a vaccine — if then — and the actual experts said it could take years for a vaccine. Only Trump is talking about months from now, again he lied to you, so I get why you’re angry.

3) What the models also showed was that we could open up for a month or two, then have to shut down for a few months, back and forth until we have a vaccine. And even then, LOTS of people would die — far more than we’ve had already.

4) I get why you’re upset. Trump lied to you. He told you this was over. That we “prevailed.” That the virus would be gone in April (It’s now mid-May). And that there won’t be a second wave of the virus in the fall. All lies. So I get why you’re upset and confused.

5) But here’s the thing. The idea of shutting down the country was to give us time to find the interim drugs to help people who are already sick, and give us time to massively ramp up testing and contact tracing. Trump didn’t want to do the latter, lest our overall numbers rise.

6) So now, because of Trump, we’re in the situation where opening up the country again risk a LOT of deaths, and overwhelming our hospitals, causing more deaths, and making it seem as though shutting down did nothing for us at all. All because Trump lied, and did nothing.

7) So I hear your anger Dave, and I share it. The country can’t afford to stay shut down — the economy can’t afford to stay shut down. But if you’ve got a beef, take it up with the man in the White House who lied to you, then ignored this virus as an impediment to his re-election
