1. The GOP is pushing this FALSE choice:

✅Stay home, but risk death because of job loss, starvation, or mental problems.

Or

✅Reopen business as usual, and if you die, you die, but at least the economy is open.
2. This is the most sinister thing about this thought process: It presents limit choices as an “either or” and forces people to pick a side. Coincidentally, the side that benefits them politically is the side that is the least beneficial to health of the majority.
3. What we all have in common: we don’t want to die.

What we disagree on: how we preserve life.
4. Stay at home orders are put in place to preserve as much life as possible (no matter what political affiliation...a life is a life and it’s worth preserving).
5. The “let’s open the economy” folks are sincerely wanting life too. But the issue is that they have given up on the notion that the government should step in and help. They don’t even bother pushing their representatives. They feel like it’s soley up to them to survive.
6. The thing is, banks, the airline industry, and other big industries Don’t feel that same hopelessness. They get bailed out.
7. Small business owners don’t have that kind of pull & the GOP is good at convincing these people that it is the other side that is punishing them by wanting to stay closed.
8. Imagine if both parties channeled their anger toward the GOP and demanded that they pass some legislation to keep us ALL afloat.

✅”We want to ride this out until there is a treatment, and you’re going to make sure our tax dollars maintain us, or else we vote you out”.
9. That’s the other option nobody talks about: more aid. More money. More creative ways to keep people afloat in this unprecedented time such that it’s not “inevitable” that we suffer. Why keep business as usual standards if business ain’t gonna be usual? It’s stupid.
10. It’s politically beneficial (so they think) for the GOP to create this false choice. Getting people to not trust government creates apathy. Apathetic people check out and don’t vote. They also place Democrats and Republicans as 2 sides of the same coin.
We know they aren’t.
