The 'Computing, Technology,& Space' session of #SSiC2020 has kicked off! Invited speakers for this session are @cyberlyra, @DrSyedMustafaA1, @shaka_lulu & @anulikesstars. Some excellent discussions so far on science fiction, science's participation in colonialism, & space safety!
I LOVED the q from @astro__will for #SSiC2020 "what do you consider to be essential reading?" and I totally agree with @Divya_M_P that this is such a loaded q (despite seeming quite simple). I'll say that this is something I've been thinking about recently in relation to becoming
This is something I'm trying to do for myself anyway, & that I'm really excited about, & excited to collaborate with other members of the group including from @SWFoundation to hopefully create this. But I'm also apprehensive- how do we first find & then decide what to include?
How do I ask people for their recommendations, without straying into asking for free labour? How do I reconcile being an early career researcher (ECR) not from a social science/history background, that wants to learn more & think more critically about the field that I'm in,
& provide my labour to build a resource that others (especially other ECRs) can use, without centering myself in this? -Given that I do not have the experience, & often find myself thinking "maybe I should know/have read this already". (I'm sure others, esp. ECRs feel this also).
& I think striking balance between finding the resources & learning for yourself, but also asking those with more knowledge/experience for help, is what I mean abt the q being loaded. All this is to say, in a way- thank u to @astro__will, for asking the q I wanted to!😄 #SSiC2020
