people on the left (and a few others) forget that actual people lived and live in kosovo and they suffered before and beyond the 1990s.
the apartheid albanians experienced since the mid 1980s was the culmination of decade long living as second class citizens under yugoslavia.
because the precedent for repression towards albanians was normalised institutionally, something that consolidated during the rankovic years and never disappeared, mobilisation against kosovar-albanians was deemed acceptable unproblematically.
the entire discourse on intervention ignores this political fact, and builds on a pick and choose narrative, and thereby erases histories of violence suffered by people who are supposed to feel ashamed for being saved.
