I'm really teary because my being born was something similar. And my mom was alone, no advocates. She tried to advocate for herself but wasn't listened to. We both could have died because of an anesthesiologist who my mom suspects had caused at least 1 other Black mother to die.
My mom blacked out during delivery because the epidural went too far up her spine (she's very sensitive to drugs). So she basically wasn't awake when I was born. She just remembered them pushing on her stomach to get me out before she lost consciousness.
I don't think I understood the terror and the rage until I read this thread. Just not being listened to, over and over, talked down to, and in Karla's case, almost being held captive?

That sort of medical trauma is absolutely racist and sexist in origin and I hope she sues.
