while the source material is not ideal, it’s great that it’s raising awareness and conversation about sexual abuse and sexism and i think it’s great women are feeling encouraged to share their stories HOWEVER a couple things i think we should all remember:
1) feminism HAS to be intersectional! if you don’t stand with ALL women, actively incl women of colour, muslim women, trans women, women with disabilities, women in sex work, you don’t stand with women at all!! so please double check which voices and messages you are amplifying
in this case racists, transphobes, islamophobes, ableists and ppl with anti sex work stances are given a platform. the only people discussed and fought for are straight white able bodied women while the rest is held back and discriminated further by these “feminist” organisations
2) when sharing your story, giving your opinion or discussing sensitive issues such as sex crimes in any way, esp in the masses of posts that are now circling (which again, is mostly a really good thing!), be even more careful and make sure you put content/ trigger warnings!!!!!
that shit is tough to read for victims and having those warnings makes it easier to scroll past, if needed avoid and generally regulate what we see for our own well-being. to fellow victims: if you’re sharing your stories: i salute you. if not: that’s okay too, i stand with you
and others will as well. your voice will be heard, you are not alone, and while it’s absolutely horrific you had to experience this, you will start to heal eventually. stay safe and keep fighting to the best of your individual abilities, look after yourself first x
