[THREAD] Today @Europarl_EN debated #ContactTracingApp. Many people look to their governments for protection. To make it look like they’re doing something, authorities are carelessly over-prescribing irresponsible technology./1

But in a well-functioning #democracy, our governments are supposed to organise informed public debate about how to administer technology responsibly & steer a course that keeps us free & healthy. This has not happened in many #EU countries. /2

#ContactTracingApp cannot work without public trust. Much of the public will only trust responsible technology that handles our privacy & freedom with respect. The EU must remind governments of our shared values. #BeResponsible #BeDemocratic /3 [END]
