Professional do-gooders, we are part of an industry built on the suffering of others, operating inside and perpetuating the extractive systems & societies we profess to “improve.”

How does the world change, if we won’t transform ourselves, let alone our organizations? /1
The society and the organizations within it inevitably (often unconsciously) reflect and reproduce each other, unless there are specific, sustained efforts to change practices and policies.

White people within the sector, can do more to interrupt this harm:

We can make different hiring & promotional decisions.
We can get $ to people closer to the issues and get out of the way - with unrestricted core funding.
We can stop define "our" results. /3
White people can do our personal work, our healing work when it comes to anti-racism and decolonization as well.

And because we as individuals are only a small part of systems change, we necessarily have to do that work with others. /4
We have to be braver.

It’s not easy, and it’s possible...and it's worth it.
