People often asked what it was like to work at BuzzFeed. I'd say it's what I wanted a newsroom of the future to be: a place where we gave reporters time to work on stories that mattered, stories that changed lives and changed laws. Sometimes stories that just made you laugh.
Your colleagues were your cheerleaders and collaborators not your competition. We were the most diverse newsroom in Britain. The editors weren't all white men. And those who were supported those who weren't. Younger reporters taught the more seasoned pros. We had an LGBT editor!
Editors didn't take what made individuals brilliant and then mould them into versions of ourselves. People were so smart with incredible work ethics. I improved as a journalist in every way as a result: as a writer, as an editor, a meme-maker, and a manager.
Outsiders might look at BuzzFeed and think of free snacks and big LOL signs but take all that frill away - as this pandemic has - and you're left with the true soul of what this news team was in its various forms: absolutely brilliant reporters who you'd be proud to call friends.
And on a personal level, thank you @stuartmillar159. I watched your every move over the past four and some years and soaked up everything you taught me as @janinegibson told me you would. You made every piece of work better.

It's the end of an era but I was there. *bangs table*
