sometimes a person who& #39;s marginalized will say something ableist, and I want to point it out but they& #39;re in the middle of getting dogpiled about their marginalization
and if I say something, it will just distract from the primary issue / be weaponized by bigots
and if I say something, it will just distract from the primary issue / be weaponized by bigots
so basically sometimes I just... don& #39;t get into a particular aspect of ableism, because it feels like I& #39;m... derailing an important conversation and recentering it on my issues
and I know that "I wasn& #39;t talking about disability" is a thing ableist people often say
disabled people end up not having access because designers forget we exist, etc
it& #39;s not great
disabled people end up not having access because designers forget we exist, etc
it& #39;s not great
but there& #39;s also that thing when you have privilege (even if you& #39;re marginalized in other areas) where it& #39;s really important not to jump in and go "not all [people that you& #39;re complaining about]"
and it& #39;s...yikes
and it& #39;s...yikes
all this is to say that in conversations around COVID and people who work cleaning houses, I know it can hurt to hear people complaining about privileged wankers who don& #39;t care about their cleaners
but if you& #39;re not a privileged wanker, maybe don& #39;t make it about you
but if you& #39;re not a privileged wanker, maybe don& #39;t make it about you
If anyone has any recommendations of any threads by house cleaners dealing with reopenings or the Discourse (particularly any by WOC), please lmk so I can boost them
