As an aside, back in the late 2000's I did some design work on Guardian Soulmates and we took it to user-testing to see how it worked with users and being a man watching that session was excruciating. Part of the thing we were testing was the advanced search feature
If you've never been to a user-testing session for a website or app, basically you get some volunteers in to play with the new design, someone is in the room with them and they direct them through some tasks and ask them their impressions of the app etc. Also you film it
And sometimes you have the people who have designed it (i.e. me) in another room next door observing the session through a fake mirror or something. As a UX designer it's the closest you ever get to being in a spy or detective movie
Anyways we were testing the advanced search facility, and it included an age range as one of the criteria. I suspect you can see where this is going, huh?
Every single woman we tested set the dating age range to be between about two years younger than her age & five years older than her age

Every single man we tested set the dating age range to be between 18 and their age. Every single one. Don't #notallmen me. Every. Single. One
It has haunted me to this day
Also we should have simplified the interface and if you selected male as gender we should have just had a tickbox "Are they breathing?" and left it at that.
"I'm 48, I know people are watching this, shall I err on the side of caution and just go for, say, twenty years younger? NOT ME. NOT ME. THREE WHOLE DECADES AND YOUNGER THAN MY DAUGHTER I JUST MENTIONED WAS AT UNIVERSITY"
