When I look back @TheDemocrats never cared about my rights. They only cared about my vote.

Like many #LGBTQ people I was told about a litany of crimes that Republicans wanted to commit against me. But why was there a such thing as @LogCabinGOP I wondered. Then it hit me.

Why would a group of #LGBTQ people create a political party of their own that aligned with the @GOP if these people were truly trying to harm people like me?

Then I took some time to read for myself what they were about. And reading about their issues and concerns. #EyesOpen

What had the #Democrats ever really done for the #LGBTQ community? Nothing of high praise. There was talk for decades. They were supposed to fight for us, protect us, but nothing.. And then #AIDS came and our rights became a lesser concern.

There were lots of other things that started to bother me. Sad things. Horrific things. Watching people die of a disease that demonized the #LGBTQ community at the same time it was killing us one by one at an alarming rate. But who cared?

The truth is that the government wasn't the issue with AIDS. There was awareness. There was research and grant money. There was community efforts. But there was something else that was going on too. Something disturbing.

If you have never heard of conversion parties let it be known, it was a thing. People who no longer wanted to live in fear of catching #HIV decided to just.. Intentionally inflict it upon themselves. And people aided in this effort. I was mortified.

Then came #DADT.. A massive failure that swept away any hope I had of joining the military. I had actually been hashing over joining several months before that was signed into law. Thanks, @BillClinton. You screwed #LGBTQ people real good with that.

I mean seriously? What had #Democrats really every done for the #LGBTQ community in my life that had earned them my vote? Why was I voting for these people?

They didn't even make gay marriage happen. No that was #SCOTUS that did that. It was the right decision. Equality won

Oh yes.. The repeal of #DADT at the last minute to pander to #LGBTQ voters.. I mean it was a great big show how the people who gave us DADT.. Were finally going to undo their own mistake. All to get votes.

Are we supposed to kiss your ass for fixing your own screwup?

No.. I can't think of a single thing that Democrats have ever really done to protect my rights.

Yeah I get it, right-wing Christians fought us all the way. They have a right to a voice in the country too, you know? So more of them came around and yeah, SCOTUS had to act too.

But in the end, the process worked like it was supposed to work. How dopey are all of you to not remember the basics we were taught as kids about how our government works? Oh wait, I forgot they took all that stuff out of school books in America. We don't teach it anymore.

I'm not saying all #Republicans are great people. I'm not even saying @realDonaldTrump is a saint.

I'm saying things have come a long way and there is a home for #LGBTQ people in the #conservative movement. And yeah.. Trump is the right guy for the task at hand.

Be mad at me for being gay. Be mad at me for being a conservative. I don't care.. Be mad at the people that have used your voice and done nothing for you. Not a single thing.

Did they earn your vote? Conservatives earned my vote by caring about my rights and safety.

Americans should come first..

Why aren't Democrats looking out for our Veterans? Why is it always Conservatives that fight for improvements to protect and honor those who served this country? These people are heroes. They should be treated as valued assets to our society.

I guess it makes a difference when you have a grandfather that served in WWII.. When you have close friends and even a soon to be father-in-law that served in Vietnam.

Watching how they've been treated by Democrats.. It's disgraceful..

Obviously I could go on all night about my reasons for walking away.. But the fact is all I had to do was open my eyes and look at the horrific things going on in our country, even today. It demonstrates why Democrats today are reason enough to #WalkAway.
