So Welsh independence is more likely than ever now Westminster's fatal neglect is so obvious, right?!
Actually, the right which is using English nationalism to retain dominance has been reacting very strategically to the pandemic. They know full well that a lengthy disruption to everyday life will get people asking uncomfortable questions about why things were the way they were.
If the government can just conjure cash out of thin air to pay wages, why do we put up poverty and homelessness? England's unlockdown is a recognition of this danger for neoliberals.
And this is the same reason they are suddenly paying attention to Wales for the first time ever. Because our different approach shows up the inhumanity of forcing people back to work, it threatens their hegemony. That's why the Sun has gone after Vaughn Gething....
They weren't interested in his multiple failures in the Welsh handling of Covid until now. And now it's being pulled into this horrible culture war.
If we get to the point of a referendum, the establishment assault on Scotland will look like a cake walk. It will work to activate the strand of reactionary British nationalism in those of us who are vulnerable to it (a lot of us). All that pro-Brexit cash could flood in.
Without absolute hegemony in civil society and communities, any chance of escaping the British state will be wiped out, and probably devolution with it.

Keeping Wales as an 'internal other' is mentally very important to English nationalism (h/t @HuwL1oyd)
Only an organised, visionary progressive, response that spreads its ideas and excitement into every corner of Wales has a chance of beating that onslaught.

Groups like @AUOBCymru have already transformed the situation, but let's keep our eyes open about the challenge ahead.
