There are 17 African countries before India, indicating that the low per capita consumption is not due to lack of purchasing power.
Below are some household names and their ranks:
USA - 3rd
Sweden - 16th
Canada - 17th
Netherlands - 20th
Japan - 32nd
Even Kyrgyzstan with 83% Sunni Muslims and Kazakhstan with 70% Muslim population beat India. They rank 37 and 57 respectively. Alcohol consumption is banned in Islam.
The story this author is trying to sell is part-fiction, part propaganda.
According to Forbes, in 2015, only 5% of road accidents in India involved alcohol. The numbers are 58% for SA, 34% for CA, 31% for US, 30% for AUS and so on.
IND does not have a unique drinking problem. It's social & we are managing it better than r.o.w. There is no dark reality.
