Photography can provide inspiration, hope and joy in these troubled times but browsing images online won’t put food on the table for photographers or their surviving dependants. They put their heart and soul into their work and it is best appreciated when bought & seen in print.
If you prefer something that pulls together the work of different photographers then this book of photos of the U.K. taken by international photographers is a must have. Edited by Martin Parr it is one of the best photography books you can buy.
This book of Bert Hardy’s photography speaks for itself. He was one of the greats.
I love this book to bits. Truly fabulous photos and some great text to provide an insight into her work. She is one of the best social documentary photographers.
Raymond Depardon’s photos of Glasgow in 1980 were considered too bleak to publish at the time. Here they are in all their glory. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
This is the definitive record of Don McCullin’s photos of England. Vast depth and breadth and a must have book. I have a signed copy in front of me as I am typing this.
This is the best record of Wolf Suschitzky’s work with some real insights into his motivation and many previously unpublished photos. Highly recommended.
Robert Doisneau had a humanistic approach to his photography - some of his photos will make you laugh and cry. A few seconds of Paris life that he has snatched from eternity.
Marc Riboud was one of the best photographers of his generation and I think he was better than Cartier-Bresson. His photos of China are a unique record of a lost era. This book is wonderful.
This book of Bill Brandt’s photos is easily the best record of his work so far.
Youth Unemployment by @tishmurtha is a powerful work of social documentary photography with wonderful imagery. Buy it.
