Thread on @PIDEpk findings @PIDEpk has explored in our webinars and our work. @ImranKhanPTI @HamidMirPAK @MoeedNj

1 covid and pointed out out the economic impact, smart lockdown, needed social protection, public health and business action plans!
2. Our tax system is government (asisted by poor donor work) made policy mess and they keep blaming ppl for being thieves and crooks. We have pointed out simplification of policy and documentation, and lower tariffs elimination of SROs will lead to higher growth + more revenue.
3. Psdp and our outmoded growth model which is badly in need of change. We are wasting development funds. We have pointed to alternative approaches to psdp that could build better infrastructure and lead to higher growth. For example “no more brick and mortar” And move to RBM.
4. Our cities where investment is disallowed by the bureaucracy which wants to build housing colonies in the boonies with room only for cars.
5. We have examined PMs housing and construction packages to point out that with our city and market deregulation, the results are likely to be poor. @ImranKhanPTI
6. The same goes for PM high rise initiative which bureaucracy is trying to kill through permission raj and excessive regulation. @ImranKhanPTI
7. Our universities which are focused on brick and mortar and to meet commercial publishers impact factors meant to make them profits! Yet our government considers its own talent and research as inferior to donors consultants whose quality no one ever judges. @AajKamranKhan
8. We have looked at the country’s Human resource management practices. These are is totally unintelligent and in government and fledgling in private sector. On balance the proposition that “pakistsn is talent repellent” stands. @NasimZehra @HamidMirPAK
9. Pakistan is in an administrative mess where no one knows what policy is business processes are antiquated, frayed and confused. The system is over centralized with service groups struggling for power. Reform thinking is absent. @ImranKhanPTI
10. We studied opportunity and came to the conclusion the our system offers none to the poor. Cities which through history provide the poor with opportunity, in Pakistan work hard through excessive regulation to exclude the poor.
