Zimbabwean authorities has described the leading EcoCash platform as a Ponzi scheme in court papers seeking to sustain a directive to disable its agent lines.

Mobile money usage in Zimbabwe has moved from just basic digital payments and rapidly evolved to include salary payments and remittances among other use cases.
EcoCash which has over 11 million registered users is accused of of fueling illegal currency dealings on the streets

The Zimdollar unit is currently trading at $1 to 45 Zimdollars on the streets of Harare against the official and fixed exchange rate of $1:25 and authorities are looking to stem this by curtailing the agent lines accused of involvement in black market currency dealings.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said that the platform will use its selfie tech to ensure drivers are wearing nose masks as required. According to Uber, this will ensure that drivers are protected when requests go up.

The selfie technology, known as Real-Time ID Check, is a security feature prompts drivers periodically to share a selfie before being allowed to accept fares. The aim is to prevent fraud and protect users & drivers

Bitcoin successfully went through its third halving in its history on Tuesday, seeing its daily supply of new bitcoin reduced by half. This cuts the reward for using bitcoin mining from 12.5 new bitcoins to 6.25.

With COVID-19 disrupting financial markets in recent months #Bitcoin price made no significant surge as cases in COVID-19 mortality rate increases. Bitcoin, yesterday, was trading just over 2% and hovering around $8,906 per bitcoin according to coinmarketcap.

A new tech startup in Nigeria, Druve Technologies Ltd is introducing an innovative way for Whatsapp users to earn some wages using their Whatsapp status.
Druve has 3 founders; Yusuf Ojonoka (COO), Michael John (CEO), Samuel Steven (CTO).

You earn for every ad you post to your WhatsApp status from the Druve app as long as you get at least 42 views on each status. The payment is made to your registered bank account based on view grades.

This means NVAF now manages more than $200 million of capital making it one of the largest funds in Africa. Novastar backs start-ups that address proven demand for basic goods and services with innovative business models

At first, Novastar’s first fund was limited to East Africa. This time the fund, NVAF II, has expanded its geographic reach to West Africa with its offices in the entrepreneurial hubs of Nairobi and Lagos.
