Manga recommendation: Blue Period by Tsubasa Yamaguchi: Why you should be reading the work of art: A mf thread

First of all I would like to say that Blue Period is my most favorite manga of all time I cannot explain my love for this manga Also I’ll try not tweet any spoilers loll

I feel like I should also say that this manga is literally about art. That’s why //I// find it interesting. It may not be interesting for everyone so ya get into iitttt

We are first introduced to the main character, Yatora Yaguchi, and Ryuji Ayukawa (who we will get into l8r)

+ Miss Saeki the art teacher

Yatora is a delinquent who basically has no interest in his current life, but can’t seem to think of doing things differently. He actually thought negatively about the idea of going to an art school because he thought there would have been no future going to an art school anyway.

That is, until he learns for himself that art wasn’t just a waste of time. That art was fun. He admitted to himself that he liked art, and that he’d going into college to make a career off of doing art.

This manga represents how stressful it can be as a teen figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life, especially in society like todays. It’s overall relatable with how much pressure is put on you to be able to “do well” and have everything in life planned out.

There’s also an instance where wanting to do art as a career is not what has been accepted throughout your family. I’ve known people who have wanted to do art as a career, but didn’t have support from their family. This manga displays that instance.

Speaking on terms of the manga being relatable: I find this manga hittin different because I myself want have a career in art, but find it hard to be motivated when I’m so insecure about what I draw sometimes. I think the first photo below perfectly explains how I feel about art.

Remember at the beginning of the thread, I mentioned Ryuji Ayukawa?

Lgbt+ representation.

Although I am still confused about whether Ryuji is Transgender or just a homosexual who also loves crossdressing, I think it’s relatable to many with what Ryuji’s character portrays about society’s take on lgbt representation ,,, if that makes sense
