The film that made me a loyal Imtiaz Ali and Pritam Fan. It was almost a treasure to the teenager who thought that he had just fallen in love. So, The talk is about the film where when its logo appears, & the music fades.
A Thread on LOVE AAJ KAL. (2009 waali, mind you).
A Thread on LOVE AAJ KAL. (2009 waali, mind you).
The meeting, parting, and seeking - The first couple of shots are abrupt, they don't give us emotion. They are a bit too naive, too modern, too romantic, also. I forgot to mention that, this film made me a Deepika fan as well. OSO didn't leave any impression then, btw!
This is the Imtiaz-esque scene, short about it stays as a memory, vividly. It tells a lot about the characters, Jai and Meera. Jai doesn't know what he is seeking, is it pleasure or love? Meera is equally naive, but also bold. She enjoys the play!
The Dialogues deserve some kind of applause, especially in the first 10-15 minutes into the film, where we don't know what actually is going on. The writing doesn't allow us to think much about the disjointedness. We barely know the characters, their desires, love, and stuff.
Perhaps, I was never as fascinated by Love Aaj Kal as now. I'm compelled to call it a classic now. I can see a great amount of detail in the writing, almost in every scene, whose runtime is hardly a minute. The Last shot of this scene, is artistic. It States a lot.
The Love of Aaj Kal. Perhaps, Imtiaz Bhai tried to make a simplistic/extraordinary romantic statement, calling Love of these times. I think Love, whether is Aaj or Kal is the same, it is just the confusion, and compulsions are more now. Okay, I Love Love. So. Yeah.
These shots, and Yeh Dooriyan in the background. The distances and barriers are self-built, and the pain is sought, sometimes consciously and unknowingly, seldom. This is the world of Imtiaz Ali, it is the same story again and again. I cherish it, most of the time. Do you?
This is the most exciting part of the film. Until here, though a lot has happened abruptly within a few minutes. We are not immersed by their emotions nor intrigued by their characters. But, the song and the transitions, we now know they have a story to offer. Well, we get two.
The ten minutes of the film took me a 40 minute of sheer concentration to analyze and put my thoughts into words. Not many films do this. Now, after 10 minutes into the film, we know too many things, including the sugar-less black coffee. Look at Deepika's shot, it is lovely <3.
This scene has so much blabbering, and I like the fact Deepika is called Meera. Even Imtiaz Ali said, she has a mystic element. Is she submissive? or Is she just confused? or Is she letting Jai find his way? Don't know that. But, I saw Rishi Kapoor in the frame (2). Yeah.
Meera and her mixed feelings - Who is the matured among the two? Certainly, it is Meera. Who is giving? Yes, it is Meera. Also, it is Veer's vulnerable complex that makes the romance engaging. I loved the performance of Deepika in these shots, her delicacy, & elegance. <3
The Parting away scene. The boat in the background, the blue-lighting, Waah. Saif Thinks it is too American. Imtiaz calls it much of the hard work of the lighting department. Deepika and Saif were very subtle and graceful here.
Picture Yahin se Shuru Hoti hain. What an elegance you bring to the scene, Rishi Sahab? Wah. And on the contrary to the popular belief of the actress being the muse of the hero and helping to discover himself, here the character Veer Singh does all the persuasion.
